I wrote Shellitaire because I knew the other games I'm working on will take too long to finish, and I wanted a second game for the website. Screen shot below.
Not counting the drawing code, writing and debugging the game took only a day. The drawing code took four evenings and three mornings, most of which was spent getting the ASCII art right. I had to create the small and medium suit icons manually, but I generated the large icons for the aces, card backs, and face cards programmatically, then hand-edited them to remove the busy backgrounds on the face cards and to trim and mask out noise in the ace images. Although the content had to be reworked extensively by hand, the generated content provided a very helpful starting point. Special thanks to http://www.glassgiant.com for providing the ASCII art generation tool.
Enjoy.
